I have been a jewelry artist for 30 years. After completing the Jewelry Manufacturing and Repair class at Minneapolis Technical College in 1983, I landed a "dream job" at a local jewelry company where I was given the opportunity to hone my fabrication skills. I was able to design jewelry as well as produce it.
I have no formal training in design but I get my my inspiration from the beautiful gemstones which I select for their beauty as well as their quality. I use agates, boulder opal, fossilized coral, palmwood and Sequoia, chrysoprase, blue chalcedony and rutilated quartz to name a few.
All of my work is fabricated from gold (usually 14karat). It is "constructed" using square and round wire, sheet, tubing and solder. The metal is forged, shaped, stamped, roller-printed and domed using hammers and other tools. A finished piece consists of many parts all of which are soldered at each joint and can have anywhere from eight to twenty different solder joints.
My style is contemporary with an emphasis on color. I hope that when you look at a piece of my jewelry you are not only enticed by its beauty, but also by its quality.
I have shared studio space with Andy Olive for about 12 years and we have now taken up space in the Arts District of NE Minneapolis in the Casket Arts Building. Our studio is full of light and has great character with the maple floors and exposed brick. Most days you will find one or both of my Great Danes, Nellie & Ginger in the studio. They are always willing to greet visitors with a bark and a tail wag! They have many human and animal friends in the building and we sometimes joke that we are a jewelry studio/doggy daycare!
